FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Is my donation to Children’s Hospital tax-deductible?

Yes, all donations, whether they are in-kind gift or outright gifts, are tax-deductible.  Please consult your tax advisor with any questions.

  • Who should I make my donation check to?

    University of Missouri Children’s Hospital

  • I would like to donate toys to Children’s Hospital, what are your guidelines?

Toys, stuffed animals, etc must be brand-new.  Please avoid toys that could present a choking hazard or fall apart easily for our younger patients.

Our patients range in age from newborn to 18 years old.  We gladly accept toys, gadgets, electronics, etc. for the entire age spectrum of our patients.

All toys intended for general hospital/playroom use need to be washable due to infection control.  Toys intended for personal use by patients do not have to be washable; just new.

Latex items are not allowed in the hospital due to latex allergies.

  • How can I drop off my donation?

Please contact the development office at 573-882-0488.  We will do our best to have a development representative accept your donation.  However, if we are unable to find a complimentary time, you may drop off your donation in the lobby at the front desk.  You will be asked to fill out a donation acknowledgement form.  Please fill out the form as completely as possible.  Development representatives pick up these forms from the front desk.

  • I would like to donate goody bags with candy and/or food, what are your guidelines?

While we would LOVE to be able to accept homemade goodies, due to infection control, we are unable to accept any homemade items.  Items must be store bought and in their original packaging.  Some of our patients have dietary restrictions, so please feel free to purchase sugar-free candy in addition to regular candy.

  • If I am making goody bags, blankets, etc. for the kiddos in the pediatric and adolescent unit, how many should I make?

Our census changes regularly, but 30-40 is normally a good estimate.

  • What are some examples of previous donations made to Children’s Hospital?

We have received donations of knitted hats and scarves for the babies.  Some people make fleece blankets, tie-blankets, quilted blankets and decorative pillow cases.  Students sometimes make cards and accompany the cards with bags of candy.  We also gladly accept toys, craft items, video games (there is a WII in every patient’s room), nail polish, hair accessories, books, DVDs and Blu-Rays, stuffed animals, dolls, play-doh, puzzles, legos, slippers, gift cards, infant swings, princess items, sports equipment, Care kits that include a toothbrush/toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo/conditioner, soap, hairbrush and lotion.  There are many options, so if you have another idea, please don’t hesitate to ask us about other toy options.

  • I would like to write cards to the patients; do you have any guidelines for written cards?

Please use upbeat phrases such as "hope this brings a smile to your day."  Please refrain from "get well" or messages with a religious theme.  Interactive cards with tic-tac-toe games or crosswords are always fun for the kids.

  • I would like to take a tour of the facility.  Can I do that?

We are unable to provide tours of the facility to the general public due to infection control.  As a general rule, visitors to patient care areas must be at least 18 years old, have current vaccinations and be free of illnesses (fever, sore throat, cold, etc.).  Our development staff is happy to meet with community members who are interested in supporting the hospital and discussing the facility and the various services Children’s Hospital is able to offer our patients in the cafeteria or at a location outside of the facility.

  • I would like to organize an event and raise funds for Children’s Hospital.  How can I do this?

Thank you so very much for deciding to organize a fundraising event for Children’s Hospital.  Please check out our Plan a Fundraising Event for Children’s Hospital page under the Special Events tab to learn more.
