PEDIATRIC DIABETES

World-class, world-renowned

The Pediatric Diabetes program is known for its clinical expertise, leading edge research and exceptional care of children with diabetes. Since the 1950s when Children’s Hospital’s first pediatric chair, Robert L. Jackson, MD, theorized that controlling a patient’s blood sugar could help control a patient’s diabetes, the program has continued to explore ways to help kids manage the disease and live better.

Today, led by mid-Missouri’s only board certified pediatric endocrinologists, the Pediatric Diabetes program at MU Children’s Hospital uses a multi-disciplinary approach to help families manage their children’s illnesses. In addition to that outstanding clinical care, the program leaves its mark on diabetes treatment worldwide. Its diagnostic laboratory is the primary reference lab for the international standardization of glycated hemoglobin HbA1c testing. As the lab that sets the international standard, it ensures the accuracy of tests done in different labs all over the world.
